First I want to send out a Happy Birthday to my big brother.

Good morning, Sea-kers! I’m Sheryl with Cruise Sea-kers, and this is your Mooring News for Friday, October ninth. Before we get underway, I’m wearing my American Legion R.E.D. shirt. R.E.D. stands for Remember Everyone Deployed.

Imagine being away from your family for months, missing birthdays, holidays and the everyday moments we take for granted. Wearing red one day a week is a small gesture, but it reminds us of the sacrifices our deployed service members and their families make every day.

To everyone serving far from home, and everyone waiting for them: you are remembered, and you are appreciated.

Today we’re watching storm conditions, checking out Carnival Freedom’s fresh look, investigating an annual cruise membership, and looking ahead to river adventures

Grab your coffee. Let’s get underway.

First, an important weather update.

Hurricane Isaias is approaching the northern Gulf Coast.

At seven this morning, Central time, NOAA reported maximum sustained winds of about one hundred ten miles per hour, with hurricane and storm-surge warnings in effect.

Carnival has been monitoring sailings from Galveston, New Orleans and Tampa, along with Pacific storms that could affect some cruises from Long Beach.

Its October eighth report said the ships were following their original voyage plans at that point, while warning that conditions could lead to port closures.

That is a monitoring update. Specific changes will depend on your ship, sailing and port.

If you’re traveling this weekend, check your cruise line’s messages, your airline’s flight status and your departure port’s official updates before heading out.

This is one time we want the weather to miss the boat.

Now, some brighter news from Carnival.

Carnival Freedom has completed a thirty-five-day dry dock in Marseille (mar-SAY), France, with a new whale-tail funnel, an expanded casino and additional improvements.

The new funnel is lower, which Carnival says will allow access to additional ports.

The casino has more than one hundred additional gaming machines, and the ship also received arcade and retail updates, along with accessibility improvements.

Carnival scheduled Freedom to welcome guests in Barcelona today for an eight-day Mediterranean cruise, followed by a thirteen-day Atlantic crossing.

That remains the announced schedule as we prepare this report.

Carnival has also opened bookings for Freedom’s new twenty-twenty-eight and twenty-twenty-nine season from Norfolk, Virginia.

Those six- to eight-day cruises include the Bahamas, Bermuda, the Eastern Caribbean and Canada.

A fresh funnel, more destinations and a bigger casino. Apparently, Freedom’s makeover included both a haircut and more ways to lose your spending money.

Next, Margaritaville at Sea has an offer that deserves a look at the details.

Its annual cruise membership starts at two thousand four hundred ninety-nine dollars, with repeat cruising through December twenty-twenty-seven.

But that membership price is not your complete vacation cost.

Taxes, port fees and enhancements are additional. Blackout dates apply, and you’ll need to check the eligible sailings, cabin availability and booking rules.

For someone who can travel often and has flexibility, it could be worth investigating.

For someone who can only travel during school holidays or needs one particular sailing, the restrictions matter just as much as the headline price.

Before buying, compare the total cost against the cruises you would realistically take.

“Unlimited cruising” sounds wonderful. Unfortunately, my laundry has already been offering an unlimited membership for years.

Moving onto the rivers, Scenic (SEE-nik) Group has opened early access to its twenty-twenty-eight European river cruises and land journeys.

The collection includes longer stays, additional land extensions and new combinations of destinations.

Emerald’s new ten-night Danube (DAN-yoob) Capitals and Crossroads itinerary will travel from Passau (PAH-sow), Germany, to Belgrade (BEL-grayd), Serbia.

Selected departures are planned for March, April and August, with overnight stays in Vienna and Budapest (BOO-dah-pesht).

That gives travelers more time to explore after the daytime touring ends.

Castles, wine, historic cities and unpacking once? That is a travel arrangement I can get behind.

That’s your Mooring News for today.

Keep an eye on those weather updates, read the details behind the deals, and let us help you find the cruise that fits you.

I’m Sheryl with Cruise Sea-kers. Until next time, keep your horizons wide and your anchor ready!
