Our ABC Cruise Is Now a MAC!
A Maine detour, a floating music festival and a new rescue plan for our favorite shark.

Hello, fellow cruisers! We’re in Boston, getting ready to board Celebrity Silhouette with our Cruise Seekers. We packed for the Caribbean. Mother Nature apparently packed an alternate itinerary.

Our ABC is now a MAC
Celebrity notified us last night that forecast adverse weather along the East Coast and potentially uncomfortable seas have prompted an itinerary change. Our Boston departure remains scheduled for 6 p.m. today, but our first stop will now be Portland, Maine.
Our ABC island cruise is now a MAC: Maine, Aruba and Curaçao. Apparently, even our itinerary needed an Apple upgrade!

Bonaire is canceled. Celebrity says its prepaid Curaçao excursions will be automatically rescheduled. Affected Celebrity-booked Bonaire excursions will be refunded as onboard credit, with unused refundable amounts returned to the card on file after the cruise. Independently booked excursions require contacting those operators directly.
No additional compensation was announced in the notice. We’ll keep our notifications on and let the captain handle the navigation. I already have enough trouble navigating the hotel breakfast buffet.
Carnival Spirit loses another port
There’s another development in the Carnival Spirit voyage we’ve been following. Cruise Industry News reports that its October 17 visit to Puntarenas, Costa Rica, was canceled after storm avoidance and opposing currents slowed the ship’s progress.
The captain’s notice, quoted in the report, said the ship took a wider route to avoid the worst of Hurricane Trudy and missed the required arrival window. Cabo San Lucas had already been removed, leaving Cartagena as the only remaining scheduled port call, alongside the Panama Canal transit. Carnival-booked Puntarenas excursions were canceled and refunded to onboard accounts.
Costa turns up the volume in Sanremo

Now, something more upbeat. Literally. Costa Toscana is returning to Sanremo, Italy, for its February 2027 Music Cruise.
This isn’t just a ship with a good karaoke night. Sanremo is Italy’s historic televised song competition. Its 77th edition runs February 16–20, and one evening will select Italy’s Eurovision entry, separately from the overall festival winner.
Costa’s Music Cruise program runs February 13–21. Toscana is quite a venue: roughly 1,100 feet long, with 19 decks and a design inspired by Tuscany.
Italian Riviera scenery, music and a floating hotel. That sounds considerably better than paying $30 to park in a muddy field and forgetting where you left the car. Check individual sailings, performers and inclusions before booking.
Seattle ends on a high note
The Port of Seattle’s October 19 release reports a record season with 330 ship calls. MSC Cruises and Virgin Voyages completed their first Seattle seasons, while shore-power use at berth reached 66%.
Connected ships can draw electricity from land instead of relying on onboard engines for that power. A busy season and more ships plugging in: a positive headline worth bringing aboard.

Bukangi’s extended port stay
Our shark friend Bukangi is still in the canal in Busan, South Korea. Authorities have scheduled a third rescue attempt for October 21, using specialist divers and improved net equipment to guide her into open water.
Researchers reported no bleeding or serious overall health impact from the fin injury in their October 18 assessment. However, cooling water and uncertainty about whether she is feeding are concerns behind the renewed rescue effort.
And yes, she’s a chomp-chomp girl! Dusky sharks are predators that eat fish and other marine animals, rather than filter feeders like whale sharks.
Come on, Bukangi. Your extended port stay is officially overdue.
We’re off to board Silhouette and discover whether our first vacation purchase will be sunscreen or a lobster bib.
Haze Gray and Underway!

Update note: This post reflects information checked the morning of October 20, 2026. Itineraries and rescue plans can change. The Silhouette details come from Celebrity’s direct passenger notice.
