New Orleans

We opted to take the tour offered by Norwegian Cruise Lines because we wanted to see more or New Orleans. Also, with taking this tour, we don't have to lug our luggage around all day AND we get a ride to the airport later in the day. Win, Win, Win.

Our tour guide was awesome! Too many reasons why, but trust me! I took videos once I got tired of writing notes. So I'm just going to post a bunch of videos, with just a few notes. Hope you don't mind! Its uploading so it may take a week or so .. no really, once I get them in my google drive, I'll move it on over here..

What I learned about New Orleans during the tour! There are surely plenty of misheard facts even though I was in the front seat! Hey, I'm hearing impaired LOL.

• Founded 1718

• * French Quarter founded by French, French wanted to control commerce to secure power.

• * The French market was where choctaws traded and it is still a market today. Open 7 days a week. Farmers m. After then an awesome flea market. Sunup to sun down!

• * The mint was here. Now it’s a jazz museum. Louie arms first coronet is there. Only mint that crafted coins for two nations

• * Locals go to ——- for jazz! Not bourbon street

• * Foburg is a suburb in n.o.

• * Many Italians settled here

• * N.o. Loves Joan of arc

• * Canal is main st of N.O. Separates city from FQ. Ps canal was intended to connect Mississippi to Lake Pontchartrain but never built it. Man responsible for funds stole them

• * 1st place that had a World Trade Center. Currently being renovated as the four seasons. Topside has a whole panoramic experience

• * Choctaw showed French founder a high piece of land to build on and that became the French qtr

• * Pronounce New Orleans with three syllables

Louisiana purchase was done in bldg.. to the side. Cabildo, Napoleon was a loved person in n.o.  His death mask is in the cabildo.  The other bldg. is a priest house, now a museum.

Treaty secretly signed treaty w Spain rather than lose la to England.

P.O. boys invented by two men who opened sandwich shop and at end of day, would feed out of work men.  One would see men coming and tell partner..  make more sandwiches, po’ boys comin

Spanish introduced word Creole..  meaning born in la and not an English
